The work Nosotros Ahora narrates the evolution of nationality from pre-conquest times, framed within the historical context of Ecuador. It traverses the holocaust experienced during the years of war and colonization, reaching current struggles for identity and justice. The proposal presents a cyclical and historical journey that returns, time and again, to its own origin.
Developed within the Nuevos Formatos project, this staging
reflects on identity—and its absence—on both an individual and
collective level. It addresses the dichotomy between being
Ecuadorian and being part of a globalized world, alluding to
how “we begin to lose something we don’t even know we have”
(Beltrán, 2022).
The work was composed by Ecuadorians Giovanny Mera, Luis
Garrido, and Marcelo Beltrán. It is structured into three
cycles, one by each composer, which can be presented in
chronological order or otherwise.
